Obit – March 20, 1900 issue of The Elgin Daily News.
       E. Segerson, a well known resident of Elgin, died at noon Monday at the county institution where he had been for the past year or longer.   Paralysis of the heart caused his death.   For many years Mr. Segerson was drummer in the Elgin Military band and was elected town collector two or three years ago.   His wife and daughter Ada and son Charles reside at 831 Oak street.   The funeral will be held at 2:30 Wednesday afternoon.
“Taps” as deceased was known when a member of the band, was employed in the watch factory until failing eyesight made it impossible longer to work there.   His ill-fortune continued all efforts at restoration of vision failing until at last he found a refuge at Geneva.   His good qualities will cause ***** to be sincerely mourned by those **** were he associates in his days of prosperity.
